Fahl Medizintechnik is a manufacturer of medical devices and a long-standing specialist in tracheostoma care and ventilation. Andreas Fahl supports patients, relatives, nursing staff and doctors in clinics and care facilities. Andreas Fahl therefore often has to communicate medically complex issues. This is made easier with appropriate animations and illustrations.

We, the Yip Yips from Aachen, have created these animations and illustrations for Fahl, which illustrate how medical techniques work.

In the medical field, illustrations play an important role in patient education: they show complex procedures in a way that is understandable for non-professionals, explain clinical pictures without scaring the patient off and can also be used in instructions for a wide range of procedures.
The illustrations for endotracheal suctioning, which we created for Fahl Medizintechnik, are a good example of the patient-oriented presentation of a complex procedure. As endotracheal suctioning can be carried out by specialists, but also by patients themselves at home, clear graphics were needed to explain step by step how the process works. The illustrations are clear and concise, with no unnecessary details. The use of vector illustrations created in Adobe Illustrator is suitable for creating detailed yet clear graphics. In terms of colors, emphasis was placed on a harmonious color scheme in which individual elements are distinguishable in terms of color but still appear as if they were cast from a single mold.

The illustrations formed the basis for the subsequent implementation in an animated film, which explains the process of endotracheal suctioning for professionals and patients in moving images.
