Our approach & sample prices for medical illustrations
Want to get an overview of the pricing and our procedure when placing an order? In this case, you are in the right place! In the following, we would like to give you an overview of the procedure and the various phases of our concept and design process. We have also prepared some sample price calculations for medical illustrations for you.
Before commissioning an illustration, some basic content-related and technical questions should be clarified in advance.
This makes it easier for us to realize your ideas as precisely as possible and to estimate the time frame and thus the price.
Before we can send you an individual offer, we need information about the project. Basic questions will be clarified in an initial non-binding consultation:
- Which facts should be presented?
- Is it a single image or a sequence of images?
- For which medium do you need the illustration? Is it a publication for a website, an illustration for print, a large-format graphic for a poster or a roll-up?
- What style should the illustration be created in? Is a schematic illustration sufficient or should it be a detailed, digitally colored illustration?
- Do you have sample images that illustrate the desired style, content and level of detail of your illustration?
- Can you provide us with information material that will shorten our research?
- What is the time frame for your project?
- Do you want to use the final illustration labeled, in a flyer, poster or other medium?

The wide range of options influence the time required to create the illustration and therefore our price calculation.
If you do not yet have a detailed idea of the illustrations you require, we will be happy to advise you on our offers. You can find many examples of illustrations and their applications on our website.
What is our procedure after the order has been placed?
1. Consultation + -
During the initial consultation, we clarify basic questions, review the information material you provide and advise you on our services and offers.
Of course, you will also receive some sample prices for medical illustrations so that you can get an idea of the costs involved. After initial research, we may come back to you with further questions about the content.
2. Visual material + -
For some projects it is necessary to view images, observe operations or dissect specimens on site. Our illustrator is trained in this area and is happy to visit you on site at your clinic or research facility!
3. Preparation of your offer + -
In the next step, we will provide you with an individual offer that is tailored to your needs.
We want to make our work processes as transparent as possible. That's why our quotations not only show the price for the final illustration. You will also find our calculation for consultations, correction loops and rights assignment.
4. Drafting phase + -
After your approval, our illustrator will create a first draft.
Depending on the commission, this may be a pencil sketch or a flat vector drawing.
In this step, your feedback is essential to us to guarantee a correct illustration in terms of content and anatomy.
Depending on the complexity and number of illustrations, this step may take up more or less of our time calculation. Further elaboration takes place after your approval of the draft.
5. Final draft + -
Based on the design, our illustrator creates a flat design in Adobe Illustrator. The color mood and any colors for the coding of the illustration are defined here. Other graphic elements such as arrows, lines etc. are also created.
This draft gives you an initial overview of what the final illustration will look like. Corrections are easily made now. Color adjustments, the addition or omission of details and an adjustment of the size are possible.
6. Coloring the digital illustration + -
The final step involves coloring the illustration in Adobe Photoshop.
Spatial contexts are clarified by shading, details are emphasized or moved into the background. Textures are also worked out.
If possible, not too many corrections should be made in this step. However, color adjustments and the addition or omission of details are still possible thanks to the digital workflow.
Depending on the commission, the illustration is then “further processed”, e.g. in a layout, a flyer or on a poster.
Sample pricing for medical illustrations
Calculating the price of a medical illustration is as complex and varied as your project. That’s why we are not able to give you an all-inclusive price, but calculate each order individually and in close consultation.
In order to give you an initial overview of a possible price framework, we have created a small brochure for you, which provides an initial indication of our price calculation.
You can download this brochure as a PDF here. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!
